The Electoral Commission of GCTU has finally broken its
silence, announcing the lifting of the court injunction that suspended the SRC
elections. In a press statement released on July 25, 2024, the Commission
revealed that the injunction has been lifted, paving the way for the elections
to proceed.
The SRC elections were initially scheduled to take place
several weeks ago, but a day before the polls, the Electoral Commission
announced a suspension due to an injunction. This sudden turn of events left
students in the dark, particularly after the Commission had disqualified some
aspirants without providing clear reasons or official documentation.
One of the disqualified aspirants, Mr. Felix Gator, took
legal action against the Electoral Commission, leading to the injunction.
Despite the uncertainty, the Commission attempted to proceed with the elections
until the injunction forced their hand.
