NDC Organizational Department in A.O.B Dismisses Allegations of the Party Being Anti-Muslim by the NPP Parliamentary Candidate

The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa constituency has strongly refuted allegations made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate. The candidate claimed that the NDC's alleged bias against Muslims led to the removal of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu as the minority leader and Hon. Muntaka Mubarak as the minority chief whip, urging the electorate to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for president. She also highlighted that the district saw developmental projects when Hon. Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, served as Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC because she was a woman, and encouraging support for her own candidacy because she is also a woman in a community engagement at the Kuntanase Mosque.

In response, the Organisational Departments of AOB NDC on behalf of the leadership in the constituency dismissed these claims as false and baseless, asserting that the removal of Hon. Iddrisu and Hon. Mubarak was unrelated to any anti Muslim sentiment. They stated that the changes were driven by strategic decisions made by the NDC's National Chairman, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who emphasized the need to focus on the economy, given the government's poor economic performance. Currently Ghana's food inflation rate reached 22.6% in May 2024, making Ghana  the 6th highest in Africa, according to the World Bank. The NDC leadership explained that the party needed economic experts in leadership roles to address these pressing issues, noting that the Vice President, once touted as an economic wizkid, has poorly underperformed in this regard.

The NDC also challenged the NPP's commitment to Muslim representation within the elected constituency, pointing out that apart from the Nassara coordinator, no Muslim holds an elected leadership position in the A.O.B NPP executives, while the NDC boasts of a Muslim vice chairman, communication officer and other 3 executives members who were also elected and a Muslim Parliamentary Candidate, Hon. Alhaji Ghansah (AOB Messiah in these difficult moments) for the upcoming 2024 elections.

She also made reference to Hon. Georgina Nkrumah Aboah for the developmental projects she completed for the district when she was elected as MP on the NDC ticket, which the NDC thank her for acknowledging the massive work the NDC did during those periods. She mentioned the need to vote for a female like her as the next MP because a woman (Madam Georgina) became an MP and performed extremely well for her people, so they should vote for her as well. However, the NDC emphasizes that before Madam Georgina was elected as MP, she had already accomplished several major projects. Can she point out one major thing she has done within the district as a Women's Organiser with her party in Power?

Hon. Georgina Nkrumah Aboah also achieved a lot as MP because her party was in power. On the other hand, when the NPP had both an MP and their party in power from 2017 to 2020, there was no significant project they could boast of within the district till date . This contributed to their defeat in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

In conclusion, the NDC refutes any accusations of religious or tribal bias and also argued that development is not guaranteed simply by electing a female MP, but rather depends on the individual's track record and ability to deliver results.

We would like to caution her for the last time to desist from tribal politics before we start to expose the skeleton in her closet.

With few weeks to the elections, we want AOB Constituency to continue enjoying the decency in our political space.

A Word to the Wise is Enough.
