Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has expressed his belief in the potential of every young Ghanaian. He committed to working tirelessly to ensure a brighter future for the nation's youth.
"I accept your vote and support as a commitment to my duty to God and to you," Mahama stated during the launch of the NDC's Youth Manifesto on August 12th. He criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for mismanaging Ghana's resources, vowing to recover public funds allegedly misappropriated by officials of the NPP administration if elected.
Mahama highlighted the challenges faced by the nation, noting that the strength of the people has historically helped Ghana overcome adversity. "We are at a crossroads," he said, "where your actions will determine our future. We must make significant changes to secure the future we desire, as our country is currently at its lowest point."
He pointed out the increasingly troubling situation for young people under President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, citing rising unemployment and the struggles of young entrepreneurs. "Opportunities that were once common are now rare, and many young people feel a deepening sense of despair as some individuals misuse our resources. This must stop! We will recover every penny that was taken!"
Mahama also criticized the NPP for its handling of Ghana's education system, noting a growing loss of faith in the country and its democracy. He promised to restore hope and confidence in the future, urging Ghanaians to vote and place their trust in him and Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who he noted would become Ghana's first female vice president.
